About the Author
Stephen L. Ukeiley is a former Suffolk County Acting County Court and District Court Judge having served from 2009 - 2014. He was first elected to the District Court Bench in 2008 where he presided over both civil and criminal matters. Beginning in January 2015, he became a Court Attorney Referee in the Suffolk County Supreme Court Law Department. He is also an adjunct professor at both the Touro College Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center, where he teaches Landlord and Tenant Law, and the New York Institute of Technology. Mr. Ukeiley is a frequent lecturer and coordinator of continuing legal education seminars, and, on multiple occasions, has had the honor of lecturing on Landlord and Tenant Law before the New York State Judiciary.
Mr. Ukeiley is an active member of various Bar Associations. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Suffolk County Women's Bar Association and a member of the Executive Committee of the Alexander Hamilton American Inn of Court. He has also published numerous scholarly articles and presently authors a law column.
Mr. Ukeiley has received numerous awards and honors for his exemplary service, dedication and commitment to the legal profession. Each year from 2010-2013, he received a Recognition Award from the Suffolk County Bar Association for his commitment to legal education programs. In 2013, he was also the recipient of the Suffolk County Women's Bar Association's President Award and is a past recipient of the Outstanding Service Award from New York DECA, a non-profit educational association chartered by the New York State Education Department. Mr. Ukeiley is a past recipient of the Long Island Business News' "40 Under 40 Awards" for outstanding business professionals.
Prior to working in the public sector, Mr. Ukeiley was a partner at a prominent Long Island law firm and a Court-appointed arbitrator. From 1996-1997, he served as Law Clerk to the Honorable E. Thomas Boyle, United States Magistrate Judge for the Eastern District of New York (Ret.). He earned his Juris Doctor from Hofstra Law School, where he was the Editor-in-Chief of the Hofstra Labor Law Journal, and his Bachelor of Arts from Rutgers University.
